Dale Partners Architects P.A. was recently chosen to provide architectural services in the converting of a historic downtown Columbus building into a discovery museum. The firm will work closely with Roto, who will serve as the exhibit design team.
“We are very excited to begin work on this historic renovation,” says Jeff Barnes, AIA, partner at Dale Partners. “We love the challenge of giving a new life to old buildings, especially when that new life promotes our state’s history and culture. We’re also excited to work with Roto. Their approach is to invite kids in to test exhibit ideas, and we’re really looking forward to being a part of that process.”
The Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau has plans to turn the former Elks Lodge into a museum that will take visitors through the years of 1817, when Columbus, Mississippi, was chartered, through today, showcasing the city’s history and all it has to offer. Nancy Carpenter, CEO of Columbus CVB, says this will include the Columbus Air Force Base and the W, as well as other corporations throughout Columbus and Lowndes County. “Columbus has such a rich history in architecture, music and the arts and we will be thrilled to share our cultural and heritage assets to all who visit,” she says.
Dale Partners recently completed work on the GRAMMY Museum MISSISSIPPI in Cleveland, Mississippi, and is currently working on the Civil Rights Museum in downtown Jackson. The design team for the Columbus Children’s Museum was chosen in mid August, and the goal is to be open in 2018.
