Walnut Grove Youth Correctional Facility / Walnut Grove, MS - The original facility was constructed as a maximum security youth facility. The addition of 496 beds, by Dale and Associates, was to provide higher security housing areas. The possibility of higher abuse of the physical facility by these youthful offenders (ranging in age up to 22 years old) drove the need for precast concrete cells and sliding cell door devices. The layouts for these buildings provided clear viewing areas to allow proper supervision of these younger offenders. Ample educational, recreational and medical amenities are spread throughout this facility to group offenders in close proximity to their specific support needs. The facility is ACA accredited. This 83,950 SF project was completed in 2008 with a construction cost of $32.0 million.
