Southern Mississippi Correctional Facility, Phases I, II, and III /Greene County, MS - T. Doug Dale, AIA was the lead architect for the firm that provided full A/E services for this major prison complex. Phase I featured site work, roads, utilities and a self-supporting 500-bed medium security facility. Vocational-technical, administration, medical/dental, food service, recreational, educational, warehouse, maintenance, storage and fire protection facilities were also included. Planning was also provided for a future 500-bed maximum security facility and a 125-bed minimum security housing facility. The phase II expansion was designed for a 1216-bed prison complex, and phase III expansion included a 200-bed R.I.D. Unit and a new central kitchen. Construction cost: $54.1 Million – Phases I & II; $3.4 Million – Phase III; 2066 beds; Completion date: 1996.
