MS College Bookstore
MS College Bookstore / Mississippi College / Clinton, MS / Our firm provided full architectural services for this new 14,207 SF bookstore at Mississippi College. The new twostory facility replaces the college’s smaller bookstore and, in addition to the new bookstore, includes ten single-dwelling, efficiency lofts on the second floor for graduate students. A small eatery, including a coffee shop, was also built in the space adjacent to the bookstore. www.dalepartners. -
Dr Billy Kim International Ctr
Dr. Billy Kim International Center / Belhaven University / Jackson, MS Our firm is providing full architectural services for the design of a new two-story, 15,681 SF international center on the campus of Belhaven University in Jackson. The new building will include seminar rooms, a banquet room with a preparation kitchen, a study lounge, prayer chapel, Trudy Kim kitchen and a foyer. The exterior of the building will be brick with modified bitumen low slope roofing. The center’s interior will include painted gypsum board walls, acoustical lay-in tile, carpet tiles and porcelain tile flooring. -
Paris-Yates Chapel
Paris-Yates Chapel / University of Mississippi / Oxford, MS - The Paris-Yates Chapel is an interdenominational chapel for the University of Mississippi. The centerpiece of this project is an 85-foot tower housing a 36-bell carillon. The tower is flanked on one side by the sanctuary and on the other by meditation rooms arranged around an outdoor cloister space. The sanctuary seats 250 people. In 2006, we upgraded the railing in front of the organ to screen the organist. Student Union
Student Union / Jackson State University / Jackson, MS - This new student union is in conjunction with an overall campus master plan and anchors the eastern pedestrian portal to the central campus. The union houses student organizations and activity offices and provides a state-of-the-art Marché-concept dining area. The facility contains a bowling alley, game room, TV room, social / study lounges and computer center. Meeting spaces accommodate the student government and include a judicial center, small lecture and movie rooms, meeting rooms and an 11,000 SF ballroom. This project was completed under the firm name Barranco Architecture prior to the Dale Partners merger. Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center
Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center / Belhaven College / Jackson, MS - Our firm provided services for this new two-story brick and stucco building which houses the visual arts department and new dance department for Belhaven College. Being the Visual Arts center, the building was oriented to take advantage of the northern light. The majority of both the visual arts and dance classrooms face the north for optimal natural light, and the building’s large two-story rotunda takes advantage of the natural light. This rotunda, which accommodates a sculptural circular stair, serves as a lobby for public events held in the new art gallery which includes a catering kitchen. Multi-Purpose Facility
Multi-Purpose Activity Center and Wellness Facility / Mississippi Valley State University / Itta Bena, MS - Our firm provided conceptual design services as a part of a team to prepare a preplan for a new wellness and recreation facility for Mississippi Valley State University including a multi-purpose activity center for basketball and other public assembly events. The facility was planned to house fitness space and a wellness suite for students, faculty and the surrounding community. Intercollegiate sports were to also have space for training, rehabilitation and practice needs and a 2,500-seat competitive event venue was also included. The facility was designed to be cohesive with the campus’ architectural environment yet be inviting and dynamic, and the interior was to use natural light for aesthetic appeal and energy conservation. ASU Convocation Center
ASU Convocation Center / Alcorn State University / Lorman, MS - Our firm provided services for the design of a new 128,000 SF Convocation Center and 148,000 SF Health and Physical Education Center. The Convocation Center was planned to feature two levels including a 5000 seat event arena, a pedestrian concourse and athletic team facilities and offices. The Convocation Center was planned to have the versatility to host academic events ranging from small lectures to larger group meetings, sporting events, student entertainment and convocations for 6,000. The Health and Physical Education Center was planned to have two indoor basketball courts, an indoor swimming pool, two racquetball courts, athletic weight training, indoor running/jogging track, physical fitness/training rooms, physical education classrooms, physical therapy/training rooms, student locker rooms, a café, retail shops and faculty offices. Van Winkle
Van Winkle Elementary School / Jackson, MS - Design of a new, K-5 elementary school, which is designed using the “Activity-Based Learning Concept.” This concept incorporates “activity-based” learning and provides “learning houses” within which the children are taught. The International Center
The International Center / University of Southern Mississippi / Hattiesburg, MS - Design of a new, five-story building for the English Language Institute, International Programs, International Student Affairs, Honors College, Geography and Continuing Education curriculum. A new food service concept is located strategically on the ground floor with access from the lobby and exterior courtyard. The facility shares common spaces on the first floor with a multipurpose lecture hall and a mailroom facility. UM Quadrangle
University of Mississippi Quadrangle / University of Mississippi / Oxford, MS - Our firm was selected to assist in the development of the new Quadrangle located in the area between J. D. Williams Library, the new Paris Yates Chapel and the Bondurant Hall. The new Quadrangle provides a place for students to congregate, study and meditate. The Phi Mu Alpha Delta Chapter provided the funds to build the new fountain, serving as the centerpiece for the space. Design services; $463,448; Completion date: 2003. -
Performing Arts
Gertrude Castellow Ford Center for the Performing Arts / University of Mississippi / Oxford, MS - This project consists of a large multi-event all-campus civic theatre / support space focusing on guest performances and large-scale productions staged by the Theatre Arts and Music Departments. Also included in the project was the new home for Theatre Arts and Dance, which includes space for performance, rehearsal, production and instruction. The Music Department is located on the site of the existing Education Department. Hefley Hall Renovations
Hefley Hall Renovations / University of Mississippi / Oxford, MS - The scope of services involved extensive renovations including elements of life safety, architectural, mechanical, electrical and compliance with the American Disabilities Act. Both the interior and exterior enhancements promote an enjoyable campus living environment. Extensive brick veneer work was also required to upgrade this facility. Bondurant Hall Renovations
Bondurant Hall Renovations / University of Mississippi / Oxford, MS - Originally constructed in 1928, the Bondurant Hall project included renovation of the interior and exterior of the building, providing for asbestos removal and updating of the building systems and technology. Dale Partners worked closely with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to protect Bondurant’s architectural vocabulary and preserve its character for future generations. This project houses classrooms and offices for the Department of English and the Department of Modern Language. There is also a seminar room and a lecture/auditorium with 100 seats. Peeples Middle School
Peeples Middle School / Jackson, MS - Our firm provided services for the new middle school to replace the old one. The facility includes an administrative area, a library, cafeteria, classrooms, labs and a new combined gymnasium and auditorium. The school serves 650 students in the Jackson Public School District. MSU Science & Tech
Mississippi State University Science & Technology Center / Stennis Space Center, MS - The new Science and Technology Center is a three-story research studies, education and outreach facility for Mississippi State University located on the Stennis Space Center campus. The steel-frame facility houses office space, conference rooms and classrooms to allow the Northern Gulf Institute (NGI) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to increase their research capabilities. The building is hardened to resist coastal weather and storms and provides a secure location for a high performance research data center. LEED certification and unique storm-water management were critical to the project to enhance NGI and NOAA’s pursuit to preserve our environment. Lee Hall Renovation
Lee Hall Renovation / Mississippi State University / Starkville, MS - Our firm is providing services for the restoration/renovation of this historic building. The building was named for the first MSU president, Stephen D. Lee, when it was built in 1909. Its location terminates the north end of the drill field at the core of the campus. Planning involves research to determine a period most significant to restoration efforts and will concentrate on interior work while identifying exterior elements needing repair or upgrade. The mechanical and electrical systems will be replaced and upgrades will integrate new technology for classrooms. Department of LA Building
Department of Landscape Architecture Building / Mississippi State University / Starkville, MS - Design services for a new comprehensive teaching and demonstration facility including classrooms, faculty offices, and teaching studios with exhibit areas that demonstrate sustainable design. The master plan includes walk-through exhibits with multi-level lakes, aquatic gardens, wetlands, a construction materials demonstration court, themed gardens, an amphitheater and various botanical displays. The courtyard space created by the buildings contains a formal bosk with seating that can serve as an outdoor classroom. This project features a Green Building design as designated by the U.S. Green Building Council—the first in the state of Mississippi. Civil and Environmental Engineering Complex / Mississippi State University / Starkville, MS - We are involved with the design of a new 74,400 SF building for the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department to expand and enhance the teaching, research and service activities for these departments. The project includes 22 faculty offices, a 16,750 SF high-bay teaching facility, new auditorium, teaching and research labs, large and small classrooms, two distance education classrooms and support facilities. JSU Master Plan
Master Plan / Jackson State University / Jackson, MS - This study included a review of the university’s mission, goals and organizational structure, as well as an analysis of academic programs, development patterns and staffing. A review of the existing buildings as well as descriptions of student clientele were also provided, and facilities which support the programs, personnel and clientele of the University are defined. This planning document also serves as a written reference to facilitate communication within the university and with external agencies. This study suggests physical improvements which serve as the basis for the defined long-range capital development program. It recommends construction of new facilities and discusses problematic existing conditions as well as outlines the need for property acquisition, site development, exterior campus improvements, increased security and improved traffic circulation. John W. Dixon Hall
John W. Dixon Hall Renovations and Additions / Jackson State University / Jackson, MS - Our firm provided design and construction administration services for the renovations of an existing on-campus student housing facility for Jackson State University, an urban university. The seven-story brick building contains 205 double rooms along double-loaded corridors. Originally, each floor had two community bathrooms containing six toilets, eight sinks and eight showers each. The renovations included the redesign of the floor plans to create suites of double bedrooms with shared bathrooms and the removal of the community bathrooms. Campbell College Apartments
Campbell College Apartments / Jackson State University / Jackson, MS - Our firm provided construction administration services for the construction of this new 188,892 SF apartment complex working with design architect, Niles Bolton Associates. There are a total of 436 suite-style beds in 138 units in this complex. Amenities at the community include multi-purpose rooms, study rooms, lounges and a courtyard. The construction type is light gauge load bearing structural steel wall panels by Infinity Structures utilizing Epicone Composite floor decking. Greenville Higher Ed Center
Greenville Higher Education Center / Greenville, MS - Design of a new, multi-faceted educational and community support facility, which serves as a consolidated campus for higher and continuing education in the city of Greenville. The new building houses instructional and conference facilities, along with administrative offices for Delta State University, Mississippi Valley State University and Mississippi Delta Community College. A wide variety of instructional and training programs are accommodated through standard classroom instruction and via distance learning methodologies involving linkage with remote locations. W. B. Roberts Library
W. B. Roberts Library / Delta State University / Cleveland, MS - The W. B. Roberts Library project included two phases. The first phase provided a new addition on two floors and also space for expanded stack and reference areas. The second phase consisted of a complete renovation of the existing facility. This included major areas such as an expanded serials area, a new information resource center, a new technical services area and new computer labs. New faculty and doctoral research areas were also included. -
Bologna Performing Arts Center
Bologna Performing Arts Center / Delta State University / Cleveland, MS - The performing arts theatre features a full working stage, orchestra lift, 1,200-seat auditorium and a separate 150-seat recital hall. The brick and block building features precast stone accents and banding, and the brick utilized was selected to match the campus standard. Brookhaven High School
Brookhaven High School Renovations and Additions / Brookhaven, MS - The renovation of Brookhaven High School, originally built in 1938, consisted of two phases. Phase I included the renovation of the existing high school building and an addition onto the east side of the building, excluding the auditorium. Phase II was a separate project with a separate funding source and included the renovation of the auditorium and added a wing to the west side of the school. MBA Building
Masters of Business Administration Building / Alcorn State University / Natchez, MS - Design of a new facility to house the university’s new Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program. This facility provides appropriate instructional, office and support space that enables the ASU School of Business to offer an accredited graduate degree. The project provides academic and support space, including large lecture and consolidated library space, for the existing degree programs offered by the ASU School of Nursing. The building includes a 300-seat lecture hall, four tiered classrooms, media center, student lounge, study facilities, faculty office spaces and an executive conference center. Medgar Evers Housing
Medgar Wiley Evers Heritage Village / Alcorn State University / Lorman, MS - Our firm provided full architectural services for this new housing project that adds 1,002 beds in five buildings to the campus of Alcorn State University. The buildings are wood frame with 80% masonry and 20% stucco exteriors. The housing component consists of four buildings (two “L”-shaped and two “I”-shaped) and is approximately 250,400 GSF. There is also a new 8,400 SF Campus Life Building (Amenities Building) that includes a convenience store, leasing offices, a health spa and game room. The project site lies on the southern edge of a picturesque lake and is connected to the campus by a pedestrian bridge crossing the lake. Honor's Residence Hall
Honor's Residence Hall / Alcorn State University / Lorman, MS - Design of new men’s residence hall. The main feature of the building is an entry tower, which marks the lobby location. The double-occupancy suite design for the rooms accommodates 151 residents. The building is arranged in an “L” with the shared public spaces located at the knuckle. The main lobby is a two-story space with a large window framing a view to a brook. The dining hall seats 200 students and doubles as a study hall. College Hall
College Hall Restoration and Renovation / University of Southern Mississippi / Hattiesburg, MS - Our firm is providing services for the restoration and renovation of the three-story College Hall originally built in 1912. The building will serve the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and also house the school newspaper. The scope of work includes replacing all windows, doors, ceilings, porches and columns. There will also be a new HVAC system installed as well as updated toilets for ADA compliance. The updated facility will include a television studio, radio station and a recording studio to accommodate the communication program. Attempts are also underway to improve the building’s energy efficiency and sustainability while being careful to respect the historic character of the building. McWillie Elementary
McWillie Elementary School / Jackson, MS - Design of a new, urban K-2 elementary school facility serving 625 learners including a Montessori program. The design uses the “House Plan” where learners are subdivided into smaller families of 125 in five single-story child-scaled “houses.” Each “house” contains five learning areas/classrooms, a central family room for larger gatherings and a project kitchen for hands-on learning. During the planning and programming process, we developed design guidelines with the Educational Design Institute in Starkville that serve as a guide for future elementary school projects for the district. 2003 Citation Award – Design Share, The International Forum for Innovative Schools. This 69,700 SF project was completed in 2002 with a construction cost of $7.7 million. -
Hardy Hall
Hardy Hall Renovations / University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus / Long Beach, MS - Our firm is providing design services and MEMA/FEMA coordination for this historic project involving renovations to a 45,000 SF building damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and 7,000 SF of new addition. The building was built in 1926 and was originally constructed as a dormitory. Upon completion, the first floor dining hall, auditorium and reception room will be restored to their original form and purpose. The second floor will be the new center for the administration and the third floor will house the faculty for the College of Education and Psychology. The new addition will create a new entrance and house the kitchen and bookstore on the north side of the building.
